“Saridag Monastery“ exhibition, between September 27, 2019 and December 20, 2019

One of the influential figures of Genghis Khan’s golden bloodline and the one who appeared in XVII century’s Mongolian history is the first Bogd Jebtsundamba Khutuktu of the Khalkh tribe, Zanabazar Gombodorj who consecrated by their people as the “Undur gegeen” or the “Great holiness”.  Under the purpose of publicly display the palace of work of art by Undur gegeen Zanabazar as how it was initially, a comprehensive exhibition named “Saridag Monastery” is being exhibited to the public at the Mongolian National Museum with the initiative of History and Ethnography Institute under the Academy of Sciences.

Between 2013 and 2018, the national research team comprised of scientists and researchers and led by Chuluun S. – An Academician and the Director of History and Ethnography Institute under the Academy of Sciences – has conducted the research and excavation for 6 years at the “Saridag Monastery” built by Undur gegeen Zanabazar. During the excavation, the team resulted in many findings including approximately 3,000 Buddha statues of origin, 10 big sized Buddha statues made of clay, parts of large-scale Buddha statues, clay and chanting items. These findings were recorded, restored, and transferred to the History and Ethnography Institute’s treasury. Moreover, the research team of the institute reporting their research and excavation work continued for 6 years at the Undur gegeen’s “Saridag Monastery” to the public with his comprehensive exhibition.
