“Dayan Deerkh Cup” National Knucklebone Shooting Festival

The Knucklebone Shooting is one of the games passed down for generations to the Mongolians since the early time. Originally, the knucklebone used for shooting was made of knucklebones of herds and antelope. This knucklebone has to be placed on a wooden seat and hit the target 9 feet (approximately 4.72 meters) away by flicking. Commencing from 2001, the Knucklebone Shooting was officially held as one of the disciplines of National Festival. Today, almost ten thousand people are engaged in the knucklebone shooting sport.

“Dayan Deerkh Cup” National Knucklebone Shooting Festival will be held for the 3rd year from project “Mon 9183” to support livelihood of the citizens in the buffer zones of Lake Khuvsgul National Park and develop stable tourism.

In the scope of the project, “Dayan Deerkh Cup” National Knucklebone Shooting Festival is planned to be held in collaboration with Tsagaan-Uur soum authorities on 27-28th of June in the soum.

The Festival has been traditionally and annually held since 2017 and aiming to become an event which supports livelihood of the citizens of Tsagaan-Uur soum and river Uyalgan, and attracts the tourists. Last year, more than 90 shooters of 12 bags from Bulgan, Khuvsgul, Orkhon, and Ulaanbaatar city competed.

As a result of traditionally and annually organizing this event in the future, a new product of tourism, which attracts foreign and domestic tourists, it will make an actual contribution to livelihood of the citizens in the buffer zones of the protected area.
