Overview

Discover the highlights of the Gobi Desert and the Mongolian steppe. Breathtaking landscapes and the warm hospitality of the nomads will remain unforgettable. At the beginning of the journey is a natural spectacle: We drive to the rock formation, which is in the middle of the steppe. In South Gobi, we visit 2000 meters high laid vulture gorge and the golden sand dune "Khongor", which rise 200m high, and the red-hot cliffs in Bayanzag. During the tour, we take a dip in the spring water "Tsenkher". Our trip is a mix of a tour with off-road vehicles and through central and northern Mongolia.




Itinerary

    Whenever your international flight lands in the city airport, our friendly staff will be waiting for you and will transfer you to the hotel in Ulaanbaatar.  You will have time to relax and recover from the long-distance flight or possibly from jet-lag.

    In the afternoon, your guide will pick you up from the hotel and help you to immerse yourself into the heart of Mongolian history in the wonderful National History Museum followed by a walk in the center of Ulaanbaatar where you will discover Genghis Khan Square and the House of Parliament. Then we'll drive to the Zaisan Memorial to enjoy an amazing panoramic view of the whole city. In the evening there will be a Mongolian traditional show at Tumen Ekh with folkloric dances, contortion, and of course "Khuumii", the throat singing. If you feel like going for a walk and checking out places nearby, your hotel reception will be delighted to suggest suitable recommendations. (Accommodation: Hotel Meals: Breakfast and Dinner.)

Today we drive to the south to "Baga Gazriin Chuluu", which is translated small earth mother stones. It is a picturesque 1751m high, 15 km long and 10 km wide granite stone mountain in the middle of the Desert Gobi. In the imposing round rock formations, dramatic granite cliffs and small valleys, you can discover the ruins of ancient monasteries, ancient inscriptions on over 20 types of medicinal herbs such as Burnet, many species of rare world animals such as groundhog, Capricorn, and Argali. Today we continue our tour to the so-called earth formation "Tsagaan Suvarga". There was a sea here millions of years ago. Today an interesting limestone formations with a magnificent still testifies to it. It is 400m long and 200m high. As the sun goes down, the rocks shine bright in orange. (Accommodation: Ger-camp. In the south, there is a mountain range called "three beauties of Gobi" in Mongolian "Gobi Gurvan Saikhan". It is the southern spur of "Altai" mountains. The Vulture Gorge lies between the peaks of the mountain range "Gobi Gurvan Saikhan" and at 2100m altitude, a small stream rushes through a narrow gorge. In winter, a many meters high snow layer builds up. After arriving in the parking lot, we make an easy hike in the gorge. If we are still lucky, we see wild animals like Capricorn, Argali and the other animals. (Accommodation: Ger-camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.)

In the morning, we start today's journey to the sand dune "Khongor". The sand dune "Khongor" is a spectacular place that is 18080 km long and 2-15 km wide, in the Gobi. The reason why the sand dune is called the "Singing Dune" lies on a simple physical phenomenon: the grains of sand come into a chute and begin to vibrate. As a result of this process, dune brings to sing. With a little effort to climb 100 m, we enjoy breathtaking views over the surroundings. (Accommodation: Ger-camp. On the day we drive to the east to Bayanzag, where the site is famous as fossilized dinosaur bones. Roy Chapman Andrews, the famous researcher of the American Museum and his expedition team first discovered and dug up fossilized dinosaur eggs here in the 1920s. Today, these dinosaur fossils are exhibited in the museum for days all over the world. As the evening sun shines on the steep walls, it looks like a blazing cliff. (Accommodation: Ger-camp. Our current destination is the monastery "Ongi". It is located on the river "Ongi" and was founded in 1660. It consisted of two monastery complexes: Barlim on the north bank and Chutagt on the south bank of the river. In the highest period, there were once more than 500 monks. In 1938, the whole complex was completely destroyed by the communists. (Accommodation: Ger-camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.)

Today, our journey to the east takes us to Kharakhorum, which was the capital of the Genghis Khan's Mongol Empire between 1235 and 1260, and of the Northern Yuan in the 14-15th centuries. In the 13th century, the capital not only became the hub of the imperial administration and a center of trade and crafts through its tolerant attitude towards the new and unknown, but also a melting pot of different religions, cultures and peoples. After lunch in Ger-camp, we visit the "Kharakhorum" museum and we visit "Erdene Zuu" monastery, on the way. (Accommodation: Ger-camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.)

After breakfast, we continue our trip to the hot spring "Tsenkher". The spring water has healing power and is especially recommended for people suffering from joint diseases and diseases of the nervous system. The spring water composed of sodium carbonates, hydrocarbonates, sulfates, fluorites, and hydrogen sulfides. We can enjoy and relieve our fatigue from yesterday in a bath with spring water. Today we drive to the nature reserve "Khorgo". The lake is 2600m above sea level, 6 km wide, and 16 km long and it covers an area of 61km2. The lake is 20m deep and offers an opportunity to fish, in good weather conditions. There are many pikes and many other fish species to be discovered there. Most of the year, the lake remains frozen. We have one more day to stay in Ger-camp. After we resting for a while, we begin our hike in the direction of an extinguished volcano, "Khorgo". After 2 hours of trekking, we arrive at the foot of the volcano and have a lunch break. Next, we climb up to crater at 2240m altitude, which is 200m in diameter and 70-80m deep. There is a very beautiful area near the "Khorgo" volcano, which consists of solid lava bubbles. Then we conclude our activity of the day with our arrival in Ger-camp. (Accommodation: Ger-camp. This morning we go on a road trip to the south to the lake "Zuun Nuur". The land run leads us through the hilly landscape and the valleys. On the way, we have a picnic and we arrive in Ger-camp at the lake "Zuun Nuur" by the afternoon. (Accommodation: Ger-camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.)

Our current destination is the freshwater lake "Khuvsgul". It is the second largest freshwater lake in the world after the lake "Baikal" and the lake is also known as the "Mongolian Pearl". It has an area of 2760 km2 and is surrounded with forests of larches and pine trees and several mountain ranges. After arriving at the lake, we explore the area together. (Accommodation: Ger-camp. Today we head towards the south to the deer stones "Uushgiin Uvur". The deer stones are from Scythian times / 1000 BC /. These are 3-4m high obelisks, whose pages are predominantly decorated with the depictions of flying deer. In the present time, 700 samples have been found all over the world, including 500 pieces from Mongolia. In the afternoon, we arrive in Ger-camp and we're at leisure until dinner. After breakfast, we continue our trip to the mountain "Uran Uul". The extinct volcano is at 1686m above sea level, 50-60m deep, and has a diameter of 500-600m. Here, there is a small lake with diameter 20m, 1.5m deep and covered with the trees around the mountain. It is believed that the volcano was active 25,000 years ago. (Accommodation: Ger-camp. In the morning, we start our journey to the north to see "Amarbayasgalant" monastery. Today we have 360 ​​km road trip which consists of 310 km on the asphalt road and 50 km on the country run. The monastery "Amarbayasgalant" was constructed by the Manchu Emperor Enkh Amgalan Khan in the 18th century as a souvenir for the Mongolian religious leader Zanabazar. It is one of the few monasteries partly escaped the destruction of the Soviet Union in 1937. Since 1998, the lamas have been working to restore the monastery. (Accommodation: Ger-camp. Return to the capital. After arriving in the hotel, you have free time at your disposal. In the evening, we all have dinner together. (Accommodation: Hotel. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.)

You will be free at leisure in your hotel or stroll around on your own until our guide escorts you to Chinggis Khaan International Airport for your departure flight. Your driver will assist you with flight check-in and luggage, and see you off at the point of security check. (Breakfast)
